Season 1: How to Pray - Episode 2

Jan 8, 2024

In this episode of Equipped for Life we’re going to look at a prayer method from Pete Greig to help us as we develop a regular prayer rhythm. We’ll follow his P.R.A.Y. acronym as we learn to Pause, Rejoice, Ask and Yield. The primary key to developing a regular and meaningful prayer rhythm is to keep it simple, keep it real, and keep it up.

PRAYER EXERCISE

Philippians 4:4-9

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! -- Spend some time praising God for who He is and all that He has done and is doing in your life.

5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. -- Who might God bring to mind that you could encourage or help today. Pray for them now and encourage them later.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. -- Where are you anxious? Express that to the Lord now and ask Him for help.

7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -- Ask the Lord to grant you peace from all your anxiety and show it in tangible ways.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. -- Make a list of all good and true things that God has done and post them somewhere as a reminder of His goodness and grace. Fix your thoughts on these things daily.

9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. -- What are some spiritual practices, including prayer, but beyond prayer in which the Lord wants you to grow. Start putting those things into practice.
