Day 4 // Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

Jan 11, 2025

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6

Jesus turns blessing upside down with the Beatitudes and shows us that the ones who are blessed by God may not be the ones we think. Hunger and thirst are typically not seen as signs of blessing in the world. But this isn’t the case in the Kingdom of God. Many of us struggle with cultivating enough desire to be with God consistently enough for hunger and thirst to exist. To hunger and thirst for righteousness, for the things of God, is a sign of desperation and an acknowledgment that there are circumstances in life that can only be resolved by Him.

The only way to cultivate this hunger and thirst for righteousness is to consistently be with Jesus. As we are with Jesus and He begins to speak and move in our lives, then our hunger and thirst for more grows. And as it grows, we find satisfaction and contentment in life like we have never known before. We hunger and thirst for Him and He fills us with all His goodness. Will you let God fill you over these 21 days?

Pray:

> That God would grow your hunger and thirst for His will and His ways and that you would look only to Him to satisfy your deepest longings.

> That the Lord would show you any barriers that stand in the way of you experiencing full satisfaction in following Jesus then seek His help to remove them.

> That God would help you develop spiritual practices to cultivate a greater desire for Him.
