Experiencing God
One Name at a Time

There are many names of God used in the Scriptures. Each one reveals something about God’s nature and shows us how we can know Him personally and relate to Him.
Over the summer, we invite all Summit Ladies to contribute personal God-stories! How has God been real to you?

Select one or more of the names of God and share how you have experienced Him in that way!

May our faith be stirred as we witness God in each other’s lives. And may our eyes be open to the opportunities before us to experience God for ourselves! What if one day we could look back at our lives and have an "I experienced God" story for each one of these names? It's possible!

*Each week, we will update the collection so that stories can be seen here.
Stories won't post automatically.

Our Stories

Before All Things
Nothing catches our God by surprise and we are firmly held in His loving hands. He has shown me (and reminded me) of this throughout seasons of life "not looking like I dreamt" it would. From losing my mom at an early age, to our family growing in ways I wouldn't have thought- He shows me He is Before it All. My story didn't catch Him by surprise, or leave Him grasping to regain control. Our stories are woven intricately into the Greater Story, and we are not haphazard thoughts. It's humbling and gives me a lump in my throat to reflect on ways He's let me get glimpses of His greater picture. He is Before. Went before us to secure our salvation, and is before us preparing for our homecoming with Him forever. Praise God He is Before All Things. He holds it all together. -Anna
Emmanuel
When our home burned in 2010 God quickly became Emmanuel. It literally means "God with us". He was present with His comfort, His clear direction (or decision), His protection, and His provision (He even made sure that some special personal items were saved during the fire!) He was like a best friend- close and comfortable. I will never forget it. -Vanessa
Faithful & True
I moved to Little Rock 4.5 years ago for community and didn't know a soul. It was the hardest transition of my life and stretched me in ways only God could've gotten me through. I found The Summit after a couple months and quickly became plugged in. The Lord was faithful to provide me with this wonderful community in the midst of a very lonely season, and He was true to His Word and His character. Now, I cannot imagine what I would do without you people! -Hannah

To me, God's name will forever be FAITHFUL King. Like many families, we raised our three boys in church, served faithfully in ministry, and loved Jesus deeply in our home. Then, without warning or understanding, our grown son and his wife became estranged from our entire family for three painful years, including no contact with our precious grandchildren. Through heartbreak, tears, and countless prayers, we learned what it truly means to surrender completely to God and stand firmly on His promises. Alongside faithful prayer warriors, we prayed Scripture over our son daily, trusting God to do what only He could do. In His perfect timing, our son returned home, reconciliation began, and today he serves as a leader in his church and community. God proved Himself faithful every step of the way.  Our story is a reminder that God is always faithful to fulfill His promises. -Kelley
Father
God has shown himself tangibly to me as my perfect Father. Where struggles with my earthly father left me longing for love and protection, I have found this in God. My wounds have been healed, and I have found someone I can depend on always. This has led me to forgive the holes I felt. -Natalie
God In The Midst
The verses surrounding Psalm 46:5 mention "chaos." God has been "God in the midst" for my husband and me as we faced hard years of infertility and the chaos of foster care. He was always working, always trustworthy, and always present even when we felt things spinning out of control. -Ashley
Good Shepherd
My parents taught me as a young child how to listen for God's voice through the daily intake of His word. Since then, there have been countless times when my daily Bible reading perfectly aligned with a need of the hour. There He spoke personally, provided direction, gave understanding, brought conviction, supplied refreshment, and more! -Jenny
Lifter of My Head
When I lost my son Carter to cancer at the age of 10, the grief almost consumed me. But the Lord sat down beside me and said, "My child, I love you, keep breathing." And I took the next breath, and the next. Now-5 1/2 years later, I am so grateful for a God who weeps, lifts my head and answers me when I cry to Him. "But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head. I cry aloud to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.Selah" Psalms‬ ‭3‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭CSB‬‬ -Jennifer
Light
During a very dark time in my life, I felt lost and confused and didn't know where to turn. God, through His word, became my Light. He allowed me to see Him more clearly, He comforted me with the warmth of His presence, and He pointed me in the right direction, giving hope for what was ahead. -June
Father to The Fatherless
We are an adoptive/foster family, and we have seen God show himself to precious children who are experiencing fatherlessness due to no fault of their own. Some of the many kids who have come through our home have suffered intense trauma, and others were born into the loss of bio family. We have had the immense privilege of pointing each of them to Jesus and giving them an earthly, tangible understanding of the Father's love for them. Some have made decisions for Christ, and others, we were able to plant seeds of salvation in their tender hearts. Praying for God to continue to show himself Father to the fatherless! -Marci
Redeemer
A Redeemer is someone who rescues and restores. I have come to know Jesus as the Redeemer of my soul and the Redeemer of life's hardest circumstances. Through loss, diagnoses, and broken dreams, I hold onto the hope that because of what Jesus did on the cross, nothing is wasted and all things can be redeemed. -Kendra
Righteousness
For so long in my spiritual walk, I felt like God had saved me, but it was up to me to produce righteousness. I had to do all the right things or at least look like I had it all together. In the last few years, God started stripping all that self-righteousness away. I now stand alone in His righteousness…not a righteousness that comes from obeying the law, but that which is by faith in Jesus' completed work on the cross. -Rebekah
