Are You On A God Hunt?

Each morning when you awake what is it you look for?

Look for more sleep?

Look for that first cup of coffee?

Do you look for God?

We wake up and we eagerly look for our moment.  Can I get 5 more minutes of sleep?  Can I get that first cup of coffee before the children are all over the place?

I dare say you are like me and looking for My Lord is not my first goal!  It is usually something for my comfort (or what I think will be my comfort).  Not only is it on my thought but I actively try to acquire it!  Sooner than later would be my motto!

Yet, we long for God to speak so we may hear!  We long for God to answer our cries!  We long for God to grant us joy!  But do we look and really anticipate Him?  When I begin to ponder something, I learned years ago, to look up words that I believe I already know.  By seeing their definition it brings more things to light, a better understanding than what I knew before.

So I decided to look up anticipate:

  •  to realize beforehand; foretaste or foresee: to anticipate pleasure. (He meets my every need!)
  • to expect; look forward to; be sure of: to anticipate a favorable decision. (He desires to grant the wishes of my heart!)
  • to perform (an action) before another has had time to act. (He IS working in my life!)
  • to answer (a question), obey (a command), or satisfy (a request) before it is made: He anticipated each of my orders. (He knows my heart before me!)
  • to nullify, prevent, or forestall by taking countermeasures in advance: to anticipate a military attack. (We are in a spiritual battle and HE knows the countermeasures!)

And I decided to look up expect:

  • to look forward to; regard as likely to happen; anticipate the occurrence or the coming of: (He will do as He says He will!)
  • to look for with reason or justification: (He has proven Himself!)
  • to anticipate the birth of (one's child): (He is coming!)

Maybe we don’t see God working in our life because we can’t recognize His work?
Maybe we don’t expect Him to do anything so we never see it when He does?
Maybe He is working in our life but we missed it because we were looking elsewhere?

I loved being reminded of this in Made To CRAVE!  The problem is that I tend to crave the wrong things and miss out on God.  There should be nothing I crave more than God, which means starting my day on a God hunt, looking for every sign of God activity!  Being alert and aware of what God is saying and where He is leading!  I want to learn to crave Him sooner than later!  And that means I have to wait in expectation…with full attention!

Are you craving Him?

About Shannon Williams

Shannon has been married to Barry Williams for 20 years. They have eight children ranging from college-aged down to 2-years-old.  They were brought to Little Rock five years ago for her husband to serve with Family Life.  Her husband has worked for Campus Crusade ministries for the past 12 years, serving with Josh McDowell ministries and Dennis Rainey’s Family Life.  It is no surprise their hearts are drawn to marriages and parenting.
Once a shy young girl, God continues to work in Shannon’s life to serve Him boldly and not focus on her own insecurities, but realize who she is in Christ.  She has been homeschooling her eight children for 16 years and is currently schooling six at home while serving in the women’s ministries at The Summit, and leading small groups with her husband.
